President

Aaron Hobbs

Aaron is currently the Terminal Manager for the Delmar Motor Pool of Houston I.S.D.  He has been in school transportation for over 25 year, starting as a bus driver.  During his 23 years at Dickinson I.S.D. he worked as the Dispatcher, Route-Coordinator, Supervisor and Assistant Director in charge of transportation.

 

Aaron has been active in Gulf Coast Association of Pupil Transportation serving as it’s Treasurer, Secretary, Vice-President and President.  He has been actively involved in TAPT for over 15 years.  Aaron has served on the TAPT Nominating Committee, Site Selection Committee, Area Director, Historian, Secretary and is currently serving as President-Elect.  Aaron has also been invited and attended four times to represent Texas at the Southeastern States conference.

 

Aaron is certified as an Official with TAPT since 1997 and as a Supervisor with NAPT since 1994.


 

President Elect

Jim Norman Elected

Jim presently serves as Director of Transportation for Bowie County Schools. Bowie County Schools provides regular transportation for the thirteen school districts of Bowie County. Jim has served as director for 15 years and was previously owner of a private business.

 

He currently holds the office of Secretary of TAPT, serves on the TAPT Certification Committee, and is a certification instructor. Jim has also served as TAPT Area 02 Director. He has been an active member of TAPT for 14 years and has served in each office of the North East Texas Chapter.

 

Jim completed his certification in 1998 as a Certified Texas Pupil Transportation Official and in 1999, completed his certification as a Certified Director of Pupil Transportation from the National Association for Pupil Transportation.

 

He holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Southern State College in Magnolia, Arkansas.

 


Joe Perez

Personal: 

Born and raised in Elgin, Texas 

Married for 29 years, 22-year-old twin boys. 

Family, golf and camping are my main interests.

Professional: 

A.I.S.D. Transportation Department since March 1977: Bus driver, Payroll Clerk, Supervisor of

Personnel and Payroll, Supervisor of Operations (fifteen years), Director (Since January 1996). 

Served on the Board of Directors of the Austin Area Teachers Federal Credit Union from February

1983 until February 2004.  Served as member, treasurer and chairman. 

Served on the Youth Board at St. Catherine of Siena Parish in Austin for five years. 

Member of the Texas Association for Pupil Transportation.

                Completed Certification for Transportation Official, June 1998.

                Served on the Nominating Committee and as Area 4 Director 

Member of the Cen-Tex Chapter of the Texas Association for Pupil Transportation.

                Served as first vice president in 2000-2001.

                Served as president in 2001-2002. 

Member of the National Association for Pupil Transportation. 

Member of the Texas Association of Hispanic School Administrators.

                In October 1998, I received “Outstanding Educator Award”. 

Have served on several District committees such as the Crisis Management Committee and the

 School Calendar Committee.


Secretary

Carl Kirst Elected

Carl received a Bachelor of Music Education Degree and Secondary Teaching Certificate from [Southwest] Texas State University in San Marcos and later a Master of Science in Education with Mid-Management Certification from Texas A & [I] M University in Kingsville. 

 

He taught private piano and organ lessons for nine years and later began a career in public school transportation as a driver, mechanic helper, station manager, Assistant Director and Director. 

 

Carl spent his first ten years in Transportation at Northside ISD in San Antonio and was in Victoria ISD as Director from October, 1988 until August, 2004 when he accepted the same position at Eanes ISD in Austin. 

 

In 1984, Carl married Melinda and they have two daughters, Stephanie and Andrea, currently ages 19 and 17.

 

He is active in various regional, State, and National professional organizations.  Other interests he has include church musician, church organizations, numerous trips to Europe and the Holy Land, and hobbies of traveling, photography, and woodworking.


Sam Davila

Sam presently serves as the Director of Transportation for Conroe ISD.  Previous positions included managing the Delmar and Butler Transportation Terminals for Houston ISD and Supervising the Field Trips Section of Routing and Scheduling along with completing Special Projects for the Department.  His final assignment for Houston ISD before reporting to Conroe ISD was their Fleet Manager, which consisted of managing over 1500 vehicles.  Sam achieved the rank of Captain in the U.S. Army during his 8 year tour of service prior to joining Houston ISD in 1998.

 

Sam has previously served as the Area 3 Nominating Committee Representative.  He is currently serving as Treasurer for the Gulf Coast Chapter of TAPT.  He has been active in TAPT both as a member and instructor.  He is also an active member in the Gulf Coast Chapter and has assisted with the local school bus rodeo.   

 

Sam earned his Texas Pupil Transportation Official Certification in 2001.  He earned, through Houston ISD, his Consultant Associate Certification in 1999 and Management Instructor Certification in 2000.  He holds a Bachelors of Arts from Sam Houston State University.


Historian

Don Davenport Elected

Don Davenport is currently the Director of Transportation for the Corpus Christi I.S.D.  Don has been employed by CCISD since 1996 and was promoted to his current position in 1998.  Prior to beginning a school transportation career, Don served in a number of management position after retiring from the U.S. Army from Executive Assistant, General Manager of Helicopter Company to General Manager, Vehicle Testing, Chrysler Corporation. 

 

Since arriving on the scene with CCISD, one of Don’s major accomplishments has been the establishment of the Coastal Bend Chapter, TAPT.  Don was the Chapter’s first President and remains very active in the chapter.  Don’s currently hold a position on the Executive Committee of TAPT as the Area V Director.  Don has also represented Texas at 3 Southeastern States Conferences. 

 

Don holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from the University of Tampa and a Masters of Art in Personnel Management from Webster University. 


Sandra Bowland

Sandra is a TAPT Certified member with 21 years of experience in transportation. Experience includes positions as Bus Driver, Lead Driver, Routing Supervisor, and Assistant Manager of Transportation. As a member of TAPT, had the honor of serving the last two years as Area II Director.  I have Served TAPT and participated in many different and rewarding areas:

The North Texas Association for Pupil Transportation has given me the opportunity to serve as President 2005-06, President-elect 2004-05, and Secretary for two years.  Served on various committees:

·        Assisted in hosting NTAPT road-eo for 15 years.

I have the honor of being a founding instructor for the "Train the Trainer" Program developed as a State level program. through Texas  A&M.


Area 2 Director

Mike Williams Elected

 Mike is currently the Area Director at the Kleberg Service Center for Dallas County Schools. Prior to his current position Mike was the Transportation Director at Rockwall ISD.

 

Mike has been in Texas school bus transportation for twenty-six years. During that time he has served as a Division Manager and a Corporate Operations Director for Laidlaw Transit and Southwest Student Transportation. He has also served as a Transportation Director for several school districts across Texas.

 

Mike is an active member of the North Texas Chapter of TAPT where he currently serves in the position of Secretary. Mike also has held the position of Historian. He has been a NTAPT Road-E-O Judge for several years. Mike attended Train-The-Trainer in 1996 and has also attained recognition as a Certified Texas Pupil transportation Official.


Linda Berrier

Linda presently serves as Supervisor of Transportation at Dallas County Schools, a position she also held at  Carrollton-Farmers Branch I.S.D.  She has been in school transportation for 24 years, starting as a driver and working her way up through the ranks.

 

Linda has been very active in the North Texas Chapter for 16 years. She is serving as Treasurer for 2004-2005, and was President for 2003-2004.  Before this she served for 3 years as Treasurer.  Linda served on the TAPT Nominating Committee for 2002-2003, and the Registration Committee for 2001-2002 & 2004-2005. 

Linda also helped with the Special Needs Road-eo at the TAPT Conference in McAllen.

 

Linda is very dedicated to these organizations, and it shows in her hard work.


Area 4 Director

Jackie Ward Elected

Jackie is currently Transportation Director for Belton I.S.D.  She has been with the school district for eighteen years; ten of those years have been in the transportation department.  Jackie started in the department as the Dispatcher then moved to the position of Route Supervisor.  The last seven years she has held the position of Transportation Director.

 

Jackie has been active in the Heart of Texas Chapter of TAPT for ten years and has served in several capacities, including President 2001-02.  Her involvement in TAPT for the last ten years includes attendance at every State Conference since 1995.  Jackie has served on the Speech Committee for the last four years, the Bus Specification Committee for the last two years, and currently serves as the Parliamentarian for the TAPT Executive Board.  Jackie received her Transportation Official Certification in 2001.

 

Jackie has also been invited to represent Texas at the Southeastern States Conference.

 

Jackie and her husband Mike have been married for 28 years.  They have 3 sons, 2 daughter-in-laws, six grandchildren and one on the way.

Area 5 Director

Benito Salinas

Mr. Salinas presently serves as Director of Transportation at La Joya I.S.D.  before this, he served as an Instructional Supervisor at Diaz/Villarreal Elementary, before that he served as an Elementary Teacher, and before that, he served as an Assistant Transportation Director for La Joya ISD

 

He currently serves the STAPT as Secretary.

 

Mr. Salinas holds a Master of Bilingual Education Degree, a Master of Education in Supervision Degree and a School Principal Degree  all from the University of Texas Pan American.


JOSE MIGUEL “MIKE” CANO JR. Elected

My name is Jose Miguel Cano Jr., I am 59 years old. I have been married 30 years to a wonderful woman named Irene. We have three great children, two daughters and a son. Our oldest daughter Dolly is married with three daughters of her own and she is a Computer Instructor. My middle child, Yisel is also married, with a son of her own and she is an Elementary Teacher. My youngest son Michael is an Attorney in Houston, TX. where he resides with his wife. They have not started a family yet.

 

I have been employed with the Pharr – San Juan- Alamo ISD Transportation Department for seventeen years. I started in 1988 as a Transportation Trainer became a Transportation Supervisor in 1991, in 1997 the district changed my title to Transportation Manager and since 2002 to the present time I have served as the Transportation Director for the PSJA School District. In 1990 I was employed by Region One as a School Bus Driver Certification Instructor and continue up to the present time.  I am also involved with Train- The – Trainer Instructor for TEEX since 1995 up to the present time. I am a member of the South Texas Association for Pupil Transportation. I served four years as president, three years as vice-president, two years as secretary and two years as Treasurer and I do not hold office at the present time.

 

If elected for the Area 5 Directorship, I plan on visiting all areas and sharing information among all Transportation Departments & Chapters. I enjoy working with people from all over the state. I believe in sharing my knowledge with anyone who needs my help. I am willing to work together with all Directors and Supervisors in my area.


Area 1 Nominating Committee

Fili Bonilla Elected

Filiberto “Fili” Bonilla

With 15 years of experience in transportation, Filiberto “Fili” Bonilla is currently using his experience and knowledge to train all school bus drivers for Region 19ESC. Fili is a Texas State certified instructor and is currently an instructor/trainer for Region 19 Head Start.  He is a CPS (Child Passenger Safety) Technician and a Train the Trainer Instructor.

 

 

He also is an O.L.I (Operation Lifesaver) presenter and a CPR/First Aide Instructor.  Fili is actively involved in the profession of transportation currently serving as President Elect for S.C.A.P.T. He will serve as president from 2005-2007.   

 

 


Linda Saddler

I have worked for Midland ISD for 20 years; I started out as a driver and drove for 14yrs.  At that time I had the opportunity to become our Transportation Management Specialist and worked in that capacity for 3years. Currently I am the Supervisor Of Transportation.

 

I am an active member of the West Texas Chapter of TAPT. 

 

I am a single parent of 2 grown daughters 1 grown son and several beautiful grandchildren.

 


Area 2 Nominating Committee

Deborah Graham Kline Elected

Deborah is currently the Special Needs Manager for Mansfield I.S.D. Transportation Department.  She has been in school transportation for fifteen year 

Deborah started as a Special Needs driver at Temple I.S.D and has worked her way up through the ranks.  When she started, Temple only had a few Special Needs routes.  Deborah helped develop the driver instructions for the 25 initial regular student routes when Temple started the regular busing. 

 

Deborah has been active in the Heart of Texas (Temple), Region XI and the North Texas Chapters of TAPT for the past fifteen years.  She has served the Region XI organization as Secretary and currently as the President.  She is knowledgeable in all levels of pupil transportation and served as a judge for the TAPT local and state Road-eos.  She has met requirements for certification as a Special Needs Supervisor.

 

Deborah Graham was married on March 12th, so please vote for her as Deborah Kline.  She went from having one son, one daughter-in-law and two granddaughters to having six children, six in-laws, fifteen grandchildren and one great grandson.  As you can see, Deborah likes big crowds and loves to meet people.

 

Deborah is now into Blue Grass Music and is having a ball learning to play the upright bass fiddle.


Carla Davis

Hi, my name is Carla Davis, Director of Transportation for Forney ISD.  I have been employed with Forney ISD for 10 years and the Director of Transportation the last 5 years. When I became Director of Transportation 5 years ago we were running 15 routes.  Today we are running 51 routes and I have 60 employees.  Forney is a fast growing close-knit community with small town values.  I love working here as well as living here. 

I am a proud mother of 2 teenage girls that attend Forney ISD.  They keep me very busy running from one activity to another.  My girls and I enjoy watching my husband calf rope and we spend a lot of time together swimming in the back yard. 

I have been a member of NTAPT and TAPT for several years now and I can’t say enough about both organizations.  I would be proud to sever on this committee if elected.


Area 3 Nominating Committee

John Sides

Sr. Budget Analyst for HISD Transportation since May of 2003.  Responsible for Payroll, SAP, Budgeting, & Grant Development for transportation.  Participated in several seminars to help smaller school districts so that they too could take advantage of some of these same grants.  Worked with HISD procurement to make HISD contracts available to other districts.   


Wanda Taylor Elected

Wanda Taylor is currently serving as Director of Transportation for Hardin – Jefferson ISD.  She has served in this capacity for 5 years.  Prior to that she held the positions of administrative assistant, secretary, campus aide and bus driver.  Her career with Transportation started in 1989.

 

Wanda has attained her TAPT Official certification.

 

Wanda has served as Secretary of the South East Texas Chapter of TAPT, and has been an active worker in the Regional Road-e-o.

 

Wanda’s favorite things are her 5 GRANDCHILDREN.

Area 4 Nominating Committee

Nolan Anderson Elected

Nolan has been executive director of  the North East ISD Transportation Department since October 1, 2004. Before start of  his tenure with the NEISD, he formerly served as the assistant director at the Northside ISD Transportation Department for over seven (7) years. During his 13 years with Northside, Anderson served as the Custodial Foreman and Assistant Director of Custodial Services from October, 1992 through August, 1998 before transferring to the Transportation Department. He also brought 20 years of  military transportation and training experience, plus two (2) years in higher education both as an administrator and faculty adjunct having taught transportation and general management courses before entering the public school system.

He has been actively involved in activities of  the CENTEX Chapter since 1998, having recently served as the chapter's president, school year 2003-2004 and completing this year's tenure as the Ex-Officio.

Nolan is a Certified Texas Pupil Transportation Official and his formal education consists of a Bachelor of Science degree, Wiley College of Marshall, TX-1969, and a Master of Science in Management degree, Troy State University of  Troy, AL-1977.


Marty Smonko

Marty Smonko is currently the Transportation Operations Specialist for Killeen ISD.  There are 32,000 students in KISD and it encompasses over 200 square miles.  The Transportation Department serves the district with 100 regular and 69 special education routes and consists of approximately 300 drivers, monitors, and support staff personnel. The fleet consists of over 250 buses plus 200 other pieces of equipment, all of which is maintained in house.

 

Marty started his career with KISD Transportation in March of 1992 as a Fleet Services Supervisor responsible for all vehicle and wheeled equipment maintenance and repair. Prior to that, a sixteen year career of full-service service station ownership, management, and mechanical repair proved to be invaluable experience for his position with Killeen ISD.  Marty says he is fortunate to work with drivers, monitors, staff and parents to achieve the transportation support that is so important to our future’s education needs. He has served as Operations Specialist for the past 10 years and looks forward to serving the district as needed in the years to come.

 

Marty was a charter member of the Heart of Texas Chapter of TAPT when it was formed in 1993. Since then he has worked with others to develop the Chapter and the regional Road-e-o while serving as secretary, treasurer, vice-president, and president and now hopes to serve TAPT as the Area 4 Nominating Committee member.  Currently he actively participates as a member of the state Speech Contest Committee.

James Bryant

James presently serves as Transportation Information Systems Manager for the Corpus Christi Independent School District. He has been with CCISD Transportation for the past seven years now, is a certified Official with TAPT since 2003 and is a charter member of the Coastal Bend Chapter of the TAPT.

 

James is a U.S. Army veteran, having served from 1972 – 2002, in both active and reserve components and finished his career as a Major in the Field Artillery. He began his work in the field of transportation as an Over-The-Road truck driver with Contract Freighters Incorporated (CFI) and was later a bus driver for Durham Transportation before ending up at Corpus Christi Independent School District Transportation.

 

James is active in his church, All Saints Episcopal in Corpus Christi, where he is currently serving on the vestry. He is also active in the community in various civic clubs and organizations. His favorite hobby is Amateur Radio and has been a ham since 1980.

 

He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology from McMurry University in Abilene, Texas. He also has an Associate of Arts Degree from University of Maryland in Business Management and has done several years of graduate work at Pacific School of  Religion and Texas A & M University at Corpus Christi.
