Presidents Message:
I am truly honored for the opportunity to serve as your 39th TAPT President. I am also excited about the opportunity to work with the talented group of individuals you elected to serve on the Executive Board. I want to acknowledge Kirk Self once again for the terrific job he did this past year. Many of the accomplishments would not have been possible without his persistence, superior communication skills and, of course, his knowledge and leadership! I also want to thank the individuals that served on the 2010-2011 board and committees. In addition, we have to give a special shout out to our vendors. They are such an integral part of this organization and we appreciate their continued support. Lastly, kudos to the Executive Board of TASBT for their leadership, great programs and certification courses offered for our school bus technicians.
TAPT is a great organization dedicated to promote safe and efficient pupil transportation for Texas public school districts. This organization encourages the exchange of ideas and cooperation between transportation departments across the Lone Star State. Its members work diligently to improve pupil transportation policies, standards and equipment on the local, state and national level. TAPT has been in existence for approximately 39 years and each year it grows in size and importance in the transportation community.
We will strive to keep you informed and updated of all issues, concerns and activities regarding pupil transportation within our state and across this great nation. It is our goal to provide the membership with information, knowledge, leadership and opportunities to serve. It is only through the solidarity of the membership, TASBT, and our vendors that our voice becomes strong when we need to be heard regarding the safety of children on school buses.
Due to budget constraints, this will be a challenging year as we prepare for the conference in McAllen, Texas. We will be looking at different ideas to condense or consolidate some activities to shorten the conference and make it affordable, yet still effective, despite our restrictive budgets. It will definitely be another great conference! Our theme is “Every Child. Every Heart. Every Mile!” If you have any concerns or suggestions please share them with your Area Director or contact me directly at rhonda@tapt.com or 512-533-6073.
As I begin my tenure as President I want to thank you for your support and membership in the TAPT. I also want to thank the members who are serving on the TAPT Board and the many committees that are needed to provide you with professional leadership to make things happen in pupil transportation. I pray that you all have a safe and successful year!
