Temple I.S.D.'s Wow Bus

In essence we refurbished an old bus with local business support. The bus was a project of a leadership Temple class, so they got the vendor support and we helped set the bus and the program up. It was an old bus we were going to auction. Bus is being used in depressed areas of town to provide a mobile platform for taking education to children who would not ordinarily have access to that kind of technology. We equip the bus with teachers and head to the neighborhood community centers. The WOW bus means Wildcats on Wheels. We work from around 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. off an announced schedule.
1. Bus has logos of all the local contributors.
2. Bus has only 4 seats in the front for the teaching staff.
3. Floors are laminated
4. Front half on both sides are a total of 10 laptop stations with plugs and overhead lighting
5. Center section is storage for computers and educational material
6. We have ceiling mounted RV type of heating and a/c
7. We have a 26 inch TV with DVD player in back half so kids can watch educational programs inside and we have an outside facing 40 inch tv with stereo speakers for the outside so kids can watch educational programs while waiting for a computer station to open.
8. The bus has a gas powered silent generator that powers the whole bus or it can run off alternating current.
Everything was donated including the work the material and the computers and televisions. My folks did the paint work and the mounting work for the TV’s. It is just a good alternative to getting education out to the communities and keeps the kids off the street.
